Quick answers

Common seller questions

Module 01 · Getting Started

Setting up right, before anything else

01

How do I register as an Amazon seller in India?

Show answer

You need a GST number, a PAN card, an active bank account and a registered business name. Sign up at sell.amazon.in, pick your category, and verification usually completes within a few business days once documents are submitted.

02Popular

FBA vs FBM: which should I choose when starting out?

Show answer

FBA hands storage, packing and shipping to Amazon and makes you Prime-eligible, at the cost of storage and fulfilment fees. FBM keeps you in control of stock and cost, but you handle shipping and lose the Prime badge. Most new sellers start with a mix: FBA for fast-moving SKUs, FBM for slow or bulky ones.

03

What documents do I need for seller registration?

Show answer

GSTIN, PAN, a cancelled cheque or bank statement for the account you'll be paid into, and proof of address for your business. Selling branded products also needs a trademark or brand authorisation for Brand Registry later.

04

How long does account verification take?

Show answer

Typically 1 to 3 business days once all documents are submitted correctly. Mismatched business names or unclear bank proof are the most common reasons it takes longer.

Module 02 · Advertising & PPC

Getting ad spend to actually pay for itself

05Popular

Why is my ACoS low but I'm still losing money?

ACoS only measures ad spend against ad-attributed sales — it says nothing about your real margin after every fee. A 15% ACoS can still mean you're losing money on the unit.

06

How do I find and cut wasted ad spend?

Show answer

Pull your search term report and look for terms with high spend and zero or near-zero conversions over a two to four week window. Add those as negative keywords — broad and auto campaigns accumulate wasted spend fastest.

07

What's a healthy TACoS for my category?

Show answer

There's no universal number — it depends on your margin and how much growth relies on ads versus organic. Many profitable sellers aim to keep TACoS under 10-15% once a listing is established, trending down over time.

08

Automatic or manual campaigns: which should I run?

Show answer

Run both. Automatic campaigns discover which search terms convert; move the winners into manual exact-match campaigns where you control the bid, and keep harvesting new terms from automatic.

09

How often should I actually check my PPC campaigns?

Show answer

Weekly at minimum for bids and budgets; daily if you're scaling a new launch. Give search term reports a deeper review every two weeks so you have enough data to act on.

Module 03 · Profit & Fees

Finding out where the money actually goes

10Popular

How do I calculate my real Amazon seller profit?

The full formula: sale price minus product cost, referral fee, FBA fee, storage, ad spend and a returns allowance. What's left is true profit — not the revenue number Amazon shows by default.

11Popular

What hidden fees are eating my margin?

Long-term storage fees, weight/dimension re-measurement corrections, return processing fees and referral fee miscategorisation — all sitting in your settlement report, rarely checked line by line.

12Popular

Why doesn't my payout match my sales report?

Amazon settles roughly every two weeks, not on a calendar month — so you're comparing two different date ranges before fee corrections and returns are even in the picture.

13

Referral fee vs FBA fee — what's the difference?

Show answer

The referral fee is Amazon's commission on the sale, usually a percentage that varies by category. The FBA fulfilment fee is a separate, mostly fixed charge for picking, packing and shipping, based on weight and dimensions.

Module 04 · Inventory & FBA

Staying in stock without over-ordering

14Popular

What does a 5-day stockout actually cost me?

Far more than the missed sales. Organic rank drops, ads lose eligibility, and recovery after restocking can take weeks — especially if a competitor absorbed the demand.

Read the full guide →
15

How much safety stock should I actually keep?

Show answer

Enough to cover your full reorder lead time plus a buffer — typically lead time plus 30-50% depending on demand variability. Reorder well before you hit your lead-time threshold, not at the moment you reach it.

16

Why was I charged a long-term storage fee?

Show answer

Amazon charges this on inventory sitting in an FBA warehouse over 365 days, with extra surcharges at 271+ days for over-stocked items — on top of the regular monthly storage fee.

17

How do I avoid FBA restock limits?

Show answer

Restock limits are tied to your Inventory Performance Index — healthy sell-through, low excess stock and few stranded units raise it. Matching orders to actual sales velocity is the main lever.

Module 05 · Ranking & Listings

Keeping the rank you worked for

18Popular

Why does my organic rank keep slipping?

Rank rarely falls for one dramatic reason — it's usually small, compounding things: a conversion dip, a competitor's improved signal, or stock running thin on a high-velocity SKU.

19

How many keywords should one listing target?

Show answer

No fixed number — focus on relevance over volume. A handful of highly relevant terms you can rank well on and defend usually beats spreading thin across dozens of loosely related ones.

20

Why doesn't my listing show for a keyword I rank on?

Show answer

Check stock first — Amazon deprioritises out-of-stock or low-stock listings for competitive terms. Then check Buy Box eligibility and whether a recent price change moved you out of the competitive range.

Module 06 · Reviews & Returns

Building trust without risking your account

21

How do I get more reviews without breaking policy?

Show answer

Use Amazon's own Request a Review button or API — neutral, compliant, no incentive attached. Never offer discounts or compensation for a review; that violates policy and risks account health.

22

Why are customers returning my product?

Show answer

The most common reasons are a mismatch between listing and product, sizing or fit issues, and transit damage. Reading return reason codes in bulk usually surfaces a pattern worth fixing.

23

What's the compliant way to request a review?

Show answer

Use Amazon's built-in Request a Review feature, timed a few days after delivery. It's neutral by design — Amazon controls the wording — so there's no policy risk from the ask itself.

Module 07 · Choosing Tools

Picking software that actually connects the dots

24Popular

How do I choose an Amazon analytics tool?

Check whether it connects data across ads, profit, inventory and returns — or just displays each in a separate tab. Confirm "profit" means true profit, and that it reconciles your real payout.

Read the full guide →
25

Do I need separate tools for PPC, profit and inventory?

Show answer

Not necessarily. Running specialist tools for each area often means several subscriptions and manual cross-checking. A platform that connects all of it in one place removes that work.

No questions match that search. Try a different term, or ask us directly.
